  1. The name hippopotamus means river horse, but
  2. in fact the hippo is related to the PIG. 
  3. It is a huge, heavy animal that lives in 
  4. Africa. Of all land animals, only the elephant
  5. is larger in size. Hippopotamuses live near
  6. rivers and lakes and they spend most of their
  7. time in water. In spite of their fearsome
  8. looking jaws, they only eat plant food. 
  9. These animals are not usually dangerous if
  10. left alone, but they can inflict serious
  11. wounds with slashes from the tusks found in
  12. their lower jaw.
